I spent a few days in Omaha last week at a conference. I was there with a few girls I know and also met some really great people. We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Market which was absolutely fabulous. The staff was terrific, especially my new friend Carrie. The food was delicious! I had a lot of fun.
Old Market is really cool. The area was vital to commercial development in Omaha during the late 1880s. They have renovated it to include restaurants, shops, pubs and hotel accommodations. The architecture is really amazing and the streets are still brick. A lot has been done to keep the feel of a bygone era. There are old fashioned lamp posts and even horse drawn carriages.
The first night we ate dinner at Omaha Prime. Absolutely delicious! I had an 8 oz. filet mignon that was perfectly cooked along with Asparagus and rolls. The restaurant serves prime grade beef and it was excellent. Certainly worth the price but definitely a splurge.
On our last day there, the rain prevented us from enjoying the farmer's market (we weren't prepared with coats or umbrellas). We did have lunch at the Upstream Brewery which is housed in an old fire station. I had the smoked Gouda soup, as recommended by Carrie, along with a Caesar salad and their special beer bread. It was very yummy!
I would have enjoyed a bit more time exploring Omaha but we had a great time! And by the end of our conference we were ready to head back home.
